Twenty-two young speakers representing schools in Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac participated in the First Annual Optimist Oratorical Contest organized by the Optimist Club of the Cayman Islands in June.The program is a key project of Optimist International as they are the only international service organization to reward students for excellence in public speaking. There are three levels to the competition: Club, Zone and District and all speakers must begin at the club level. The top three finishers at the District level earn college scholarships, but all students are rewarded with praise and encouragement to keep reaching for their full potential.
The Optimist Club of the Cayman Islands is nearing its first anniversary. According to Charter President Dr Andrea Campbell, the club welcomes new members. The club meets on the first and third Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Hibiscus Room of the George Town Hospital.
