We took a few extra minutes today at my Optimist Club meeting to remember a member who passed away earlier this year. A friend presented a eulogy recounting the many things this man had done in his life. His education, jobs, career, family and passions. We looked at each other and said, I didn't know that.
And then we took a few minutes to talk to the member sitting closest to us and share something about ourselves that perhaps our neighbor didn't know. We took time to purposefully learn something new about someone we see every week. That's what being part of an Optimist Club is all about: creating relationships that will last a lifetime.
Find out about someone close to you today. The extra time, the words of understanding and the act of listening is rewarding. Engage.
