Students don't usually participate in cross country racing events until they reach middle or high school, but in Georgetown, Ontario the Optimist Club sponsors an annual cross country meet for elementary school students. Students from 8 to 13 participated in the two-day running meet with awards being given for individual merit and team performance.
Joseph Gibbons Public School was the all-around winner on the first day of competition and Stewarttown Middle School dominated on the second day.
The friendly competition encourages good sportsmanship, physical activity and team and individual accomplishment. About 500 students participated in Georgetown Optimist Club's Annual Cross Country meet this year.
